When I found out I was pregnant with my first child it was so overwhelming. I wondered how I was going to be able to take care of a tiny human. I worried that I wouldn’t know what I was doing even though I had taken care of babies most of my life. Thankfully I had a ton of family and friends to give me tips. It made it seem a little less overwhelming when my son arrived.
I wanted to put together a list with my favorite tips that I received. It will hopefully help you be better prepared and not feel so overwhelmed when the time comes.
Stay Calm. There will be times when you feel helpless. Your baby will be crying and you don’t know what they need. Try to remain calm. Babies can tell when you are upset which can make them even more upset. If you need to, step away and take a few deep breaths to calm yourself. There’s no shame in that!
Every baby is different. What may work for some may not work for your baby. It takes time to learn as a new mom what works best for you and your baby.
Say YES to help! If you have family and friends offering to clean your house, fix dinner, or even to watch the baby while you get a quick nap take them up on the offer. Also don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. You just had a baby!
Take care of yourself. Make sure you are eating and staying hydrated. It will help you heal and feel better! If you are breastfeeding, making sure you are eating and drinking enough will help with your supply and keep baby healthy! If you aren’t getting your calories then baby won’t get them either!
Don’t be afraid to say NO! There will probably be a lot of people wanting to come by and see the baby. Its okay to say no. It is also okay to say no to those random people who will probably try to intrude on your new baby when you are out and about. Never feel rude for telling someone they cant touch your baby.
What advice would you give to a new mom?
