When I had my daughter she ended up needing to come via C-Section. I wasn’t prepared for this at all. I had no idea what to expect. It can be such a scary experience but thankfully I had a great doctor and nurse to get me through it! I’ve put together a list with some tips to help make your C-Section Recovery a little easier!
You will get the shakes. I had uncontrollable shakes for a couple hours after getting my spinal. They said it was normal but boy was it annoying!
Walk. I wish I had listened more when everyone was telling me to walk as soon as I could. They say it helps the healing process. I didn’t walk near as much as I probably should have and I think that is why it took me longer to recover.
Stay on top of your meds. You don’t want to let the pain get ahead of you. Otherwise it will be hard to get it under control. If the pain medicine they give you isn’t helping, don’t be afraid to ask for something else!
Get plenty of rest. It is very important to get rest so that your body can heal. You just had a major surgery! I know you’ve probably heard it before but sleep when the baby sleeps. I didn’t do this and I paid for it. I was so emotionally and physically exhausted. It was awful!
Don’t over do it. You will probably want to get back to your normal every day life as soon as possible. Don’t over do it. Ask for help! If you over do it now, you will have a much longer recovery.
Take stool softeners. That first bowel movement will suck! Taking stool softners will make it a little less sucky. Plus the medicine they give you for pain will make it 10 times worse if you don’t take the stool softners!
Coughing, sneezing and laughing will hurt. Make sure that you put pressure on your incision with a pillow or your hand if you have to. Otherwise it HURTS! I am currently 4.5 weeks Postpartum and it still hurts when I sneeze if I don’t apply pressure.
Stay hydrated. It will help with the healing process. It will also help while taking the stool softners!
After a c-section you can expect to stay in the hospital two to four days. I thankfully only had to stay three. After missing Christmas with my son I was happy to get home! Remember to take it easy once you get home. It is easier said than done but you will regret it if you don’t!
