I have had horrible luck with manual can openers lately. I am not sure if they just aren’t made like they used to be or I am literally buying every crappy one out there one after another. I have had some that would not open a can from the moment I opened it, to others that lasted about 2 weeks and then didn’t want to open cans. I decided to try my luck and get a automatic can opener in hopes that I would stop having to waste my money going through others.
I got the Oster Retractable Cord Stainless Steel Can Opener. It comes with a built in knife sharpener, bottle opener and says it opens cans of various sizes. For me I have mixed feelings about this can opener. Granted it has things I love but it also has some serious issues as well. Overall functionality is what it really comes down to and I am not sure that it really makes the cut. I mean yes I like all the extra added features but I bought this thing to open cans so that one aspect should be the best feature and its not..
The biggest issue I found is that it does not seem to want to lock into any can on a regular basis or very easily for that matter. Yes, it will open a can and do a perfect job when you can get it to actually latch on. I am sorry but I dont want to feel like I am solving some great riddle trying to get my can to latch on properly. It shouldn’t take forever to get the can opener to do its job. When cooking dinner for 3 very impatient kiddos I dont have time to mess around with it all night in hopes it will finally work. When it does work like it should its great but I just dont have the patience for a moody can opener that cant decide what its purpose in life is.
It’s one of those things where on the one hand when its working I love it, but when you purchase something you expect it to work all the time not just randomly, so overall it just didn’t make the cut for me at all. It has great potential and would get 5 stars from me if it worked properly but unfortunately it seems the best feature of this can opener is the knife sharpener and bottle opener. I bought mine for $24.99 and it was not worth even half that sadly.
